Having opened in July of 2009 on Heritage Green, The Children’s Museum of the Upstate is the 10th largest children’s museum in the world and 7th largest in the country. Featuring 18 indoor multidisciplinary exhibit galleries, a traveling exhibit hall, two outdoor interactive exhibit spaces and an outdoor programming space, visitors experience more than 100 individual exhibits with a continuum of programming in the areas of arts, humanities, sciences, health and nutrition, and the environment. The success of the first twelve months of operation has been demonstrated by the overwhelming participation of children, families and school groups. In just the first year, more than 123,000 people visited the Museum. Of these, over 15,000 children were on a school field trip and nearly 3,000 Title 1 students attended free of charge through the Accessibility Program.
It is through the generous support of foundations, corporations, individuals and fundraisers like Chocolate Soiree that the Museum is able to fulfill its mission of igniting a passion for learning in all children.
