African American Artists - Engage in art activities using various mediums and learn about talented African American Artists to celebrate Black History Month. Create works of art inspired by expressionist paintings by Alma Thomas,collages by Betye Saar, sculptures by August Savage, and quilts by Faith Ringgold. 

Campers must be potty trained to attend camp.

Summer camps run weekly. Full payment is due at time of registration.

Ages

Pre-K: Campers age 3-5 who have not completed K5 kindergarten. Pre-K campers must choose between AM or PM half day camps, full day is not available. Campers must be potty trained.
K5-2nd: Campers who have completed grades K5-2; full or half day available
3rd-5th: Campers who have completed grades 3-5; full or half day available

Themes

June 8-12- Dinosaurs

Pre-K: AM or PM - Dinosaur Discoveries: Grab your fossil brush and head to TCMU-Greenville for a week of dinosaur discoveries! Our littlest paleontologists will have an exciting week of exploring new dinosaurs, making dinosaur eggs, and sharpening science, literacy, math, and art skills while learning about dinosaurs. Campers will use dinosaur replica models to explore the anatomy of a dinosaur and invent their own. Create your own dino-mite snacks using healthy foods and hatch a dinosaur egg!

K5-2nd: AM - Paleontologists: This dinosaur camp is like no other! Explore the hidden secrets of dinosaurs through hands-on activities. Explore what it’s like to be a paleontologist, get hands-on with replica fossils, create unique dioramas to showcase your learning, and much more.   

3rd-5th: AM - Jurassic Jeopardy: Does your camper enjoy learning new and exciting facts about dinosaurs? Join us this week for dino-mite trivia and games! Campers will learn even more interesting facts, get hands-on with dinosaur replicas, create their own board games, and will engage in dinosaur trivia each day. Meet some reptiles from the Greenville Zoo and learn about other animals that used to roam the Earth.  

K5-5th: PM - Jurassic Art: Combine the worlds of art and dinosaurs in this unique camp. Our dino-artists will have opportunities to learn to draw dinosaurs, sculpt 3D models, and more, all while learning new and exciting information about these colossal creatures. Learn the art of mask-making by creating a dinosaur-themed mask, create fossil replicas, and more.


June 15-19 - Art

Pre-K: AM or PM - Playful Potters and Painters: Put on your art apron and join us at TCMU-G for a week of art. Preschoolers will also make, sculpt, draw, paint, and create to their heart’s content in this artistic camp. Explore ceramic techniques, make your own playdough, and create clay projects to take home.

K5-2nd: AM - Clay Creators: Use a variety of clay techniques in this week’s camp. Create ceramic art pieces and engage with an artist. Celebrate the end of the week by putting on an art gallery for your adults.

3rd-5th: AM - Tie-Dye: Explore colorful tie-dye creations this week. Explore natural dyes and make your own, create shirts, learn about cultural tie-dye techniques, and leave with projects to share with your friends and family.

K5-5th: PM - International Art Adventures: Our afternoon artists will focus on the excitement of exploring many different art mediums. Try out screen printing, mosaic-making, felting, painting, and more this week. Explore artists of different cultures and celebrate the end of the week by putting on an art gallery for your adults.


June 22-26 - STEAM

Pre-K: AM or PM - Five Senses, Slime, and Science: Our littlest scientists will learn about science safety through age-appropriate lessons. Learn to mix and measure to create slime and playdough. Participate in bubbly-experiments, learn how physical and chemical reactions work, and more in this STEAM-based camp.

K5-2nd: AM - Science Academy: Calling all scientists! From 3D printing and kitchen chemistry to volcanoes and ice-periments, your camper will use the scientific method while participating in an incredible week of science. Take home a 3D printed design, use ramps to explore motion, and meet a scientist.  

3rd-5th: AM - Slime Mission: Each day, campers will receive a mission and recipe to create their slime. Campers will work collaboratively to mix ingredients safely while making our favorite ooey-gooey concoctions. Create glow-in-the-dark slime, magnetic slime, rainbow slime, and more!

K5-5th: PM - Super Spy Academy: Do you have what it takes to solve a mystery? Communicate with codes and analyze fingerprints while using your detective skills in various museum missions. You’ll be given a super-secret spy badge and a top-secret mission each day.
 

June 29 – July 3

Pre-K: AM - Children’s Yoga and Mindfulness Camp: Start each morning with an interactive yoga session with 200+ hour certified yoga teacher, Carolina Raycroft. Children will explore movement in a positive environment. Pair movements with stories, explore other forms of movement outside of yoga, and learn to form healthy and happy habits.

Pre-K: AM or PM - Hands-on Scientists: Explore scientific topics this week through age-appropriate, hands-on learning. Children will learn to make observations and investigate the world around them through meaningful, child-led science activities.

K5-2nd: AM - Off the Wall Art Camp: Learn about creative and unique artists from all around the world by making your own “Off the Wall” art. Explore various mediums and don’t be afraid to get messy in this creative camp.

3rd-5th: AM or PM - Woodworking: From birdhouses to planters, our junior woodworkers will get a behind-the-scenes look at our workshop and will work with our exhibits team to create projects in a safe environment. Additional material fee of $30. 

K5-5th: PM - Fantastic Fibers: Explore the importance of fibers throughout our cultures and communities. Learn new skills related to felting, sewing, weaving, knitting and more. 


July 6-10 - LEGO

Pre-K: AM or PM - LEGO Story and Build: Our littlest LEGO builders will have an exciting week of creative play and games through LEGOs, DUPLOS, and more. Participate in camp story times and use your engineering skills to work collaboratively to build projects from our stories. Can you create Max’s sailboat from Where the Wild Things Are? Can you help build new shoes for Pete the Cat? Build and breakdown colorful buildings, zoo animals, superheroes, and more.

K5-2nd: AM - LEGO Lab: Building with LEGOs helps make STEM concepts become more tangible through engaging, educational experiences that also require team building skills. Campers will have opportunities to participate in various LEGO challenges and builds. Create a LEGO dam for our water table, craft a drawing LEGO robot, and create a LEGO zip line! What will you create this week?

3rd-5th: AM - LEGO Animation: Make your own LEGO movie this week! Use cameras, iPads, LEGO’s and other materials to create your own animations and stories to share with your family and friends. Campers will learn how to write a storyboard, create props, and design a setting before recording their animations.

K5-5th: PM - Imagination Playground and Rig-a-ma-jig: Build with our favorite blocks and tools this week! Campers will enjoy working collaboratively to build big projects with Imagination Playground, create simple machines with Rig-a-ma-jig, use Make-Do to create cardboard creations, and more.


July 13-17 - SPACE

Pre-K: AM or PM - Moonwalkers: Campers will have opportunities to participate in activities designed specifically for young children by the Astronomical Society of the Pacific. Celebrate the journey to space and travel to far out destinations in this exciting space adventure. Use moonboots to walk on the moon, learn how craters are created, and design a rocket ship to prepare for blastoff. 

K5-2nd: AM - Soaring into Space: Become an astronaut this week! Celebrate the journey to space through history, technology, science and art. Learn about famous astronauts and other careers related to space. Learn what it takes to be an astronaut by tasting space food, exploring pictures from space, and participating in astronaut-approved exercises.

3rd-5th: AM - Coding and Robotics: Explore the world of coding and how robotics is used in our lives each day. Through hands-on activities, campers will strategically control robots, perform missions, participate in play-based coding, and much more.

K5-5th: PM - Astro-Inventions and LEGOs: How was the space helmet invented? Can you make it even better? What else does an astronaut need for survival? This innovative camp explores the world of space-related inventions. Explore patents and create your own space inventions using the Spark!Lab Invention Process. Use LEGO’s to engineer your own space-based inventions. Campers will have opportunities to showcase their inventions in our Spark!Lab space.


July 20-24 - FANTASY

Pre-K: AM or PM - Pirates & Princesses: Jump into a storybook and engage in imaginative play in this fairytale camp with capes, crowns, and more. Explore fantasy characters, travel back to medieval times, and dive into our favorite fairy tales. Campers will have opportunities to build castles and pirate ships and go on an exciting treasure hunt throughout the museum!

K5-2nd: AM - Wizard Academy - OWLS: Calling all wizards and witches! Grab your broomstick and get ready for a week of scientific potions, herbology studies, wizarding games, and more. Campers will read small portions of Harry Potter to learn the history before diving into each activity.

3rd-5th: AM - Wizard Academy - NEWTS: Calling all 6th and 7th year witches and wizards! Grab your broomstick and get ready for a week of scientific potions, herbology studies, wizarding games, and more. Campers will read small portions of Harry Potter to learn the history before diving into each activity.

K5-5th: PM - Stormtroopers and Science: Dive into the science of Star Wars by designing lightsabers, LEGO Star Wars ships, and more! Your little stormtroopers will have an out-of-this-world experience.  


July 27-31 - PLAY 

Pre-K: AM or PM - Cardboard Creations: What can you do with a box? Children will use engineering skills to create an adventure-land with boxes. Build castles, create recycled pieces of art, participate in science activities, and explore boxes big and small! Children will practice early math and literacy skills through intentional, playful experiences.

K5-2nd: AM - Minecraft: Campers will use Minecraft to develop their skills of design and engineering while exploring and addressing real-world problems. Children will also use Minecraft to learn the basics of CAD and 3D printing. By the last day of the program, they will even be able to put together their design, problem solving and Minecraft experience to create and print a 3D model to take home.

3rd-5th: AM - Games and Teamwork: Use the outdoor spaces of TCMU to participate in all-inclusive games. Play strategic indoor games. Create your own games and test them out on your peers. Learn how to use scratch to create interactive games, too!

K5-5th: PM - Scratch + LEGO + Coding: Explore coding activities through a mashup camp of our favorite topics: Scratch, LEGO and Coding! Learn to create games using Scratch, control WeDo LEGO Robots, and explore other fun coding and robotic activities.


August 3-7 - MOVIES

Pre-K: AM or PM - Do You Want to Build a Snowman?: Cool off and join Olaf and the gang as we explore parts of the movies through hands-on activities. Participate in fun and frozen experiments, create your own Olaf art, and more - all based on Frozen the movie!

K5-2nd: AM - Into the Unknown!: Cool off and join Elsa and the gang as we explore parts of the movies through hands-on activities. Participate in fun and frozen experiments, create your own Olaf art, and more - all based on Frozen the movie

3rd-5th: AM - Minecraft: Campers will use Minecraft to develop their skills of design and engineering while exploring and addressing real-world problems. K5-5th: PM - Full STEAM Ahead: Explore our favorite hands-on, STEAM-based activities today. From engineering missions and chemistry experiments to science-based scavenger hunts and creative art projects, this camp has something for everyone.

Learn how rewarding and fun it is to do science and engineering with your peers through exciting STEM career possibilities. Participate in circuit-building, 3D printing, engineering challenges, and more. PBS Kids show that encourages girls in science, technology, engineering and mathematics or STEM.
