Where is the new Spartanburg location?
TCMU has identified a historic property located at 130 Magnolia in downtown Spartanburg.
Why is TCMU opening a Spartanburg location?
With the expansion to a Spartanburg location, TCMU is truly focused on serving additional Upstate communities! Creating a Spartanburg venue will give Spartanburg families easier access and allow more regular participation in programs that prepare children for academic success. Based on data, nearly 55% of Spartanburg children ages 3-4 are currently not enrolled in preschool resulting in an enormous deficit in kindergarten readiness. Our goal is to aid Spartanburg families with school readiness as defined by the Spartanburg Community Indicators Project and the Spartanburg Academic Movement.
Will the TCMU Greenville location still be open?
Yes! The downtown TCMU – Greenville location will continue to offer all the great programming, exhibits and amazing staff working to fulfill our mission to spark a lifelong passion for curiosity and learning through play staff.
What ages are most suitable for the Spartanburg location?
The new museum will be geared towards ages 5 and under, with outreach initiatives for all ages up to 12 years old. Programming in the new Spartanburg location will align with best practices in the field of early childhood education and the exciting programming we are known for in our nationally recognized museum located in downtown Greenville. With a focus on early childhood, TCMU’s Spartanburg location will feature a daily story time and More, and lots of cooperative, physical play.
What’s the new museum going to be like?
This facility will be the hub for all TCMU programming and outreach to Spartanburg County. The new museum space is 6,000 sq. ft. including exhibits, a large classroom, sales area, small office, restrooms and elevator.
What are some of the exhibits at the new museum?
Exhibits at the new Spartanburg facility will be specific to the Spartanburg area, including landmarks, culture, and a farm-to-table area. The new museum will also feature a climber, water table, and other areas specific for early childhood learning and play for toddlers under two years old. More information about the new exhibits to come as construction gets underway!

Cost for admission will be $5 per guest. However, the best deal is purchasing a reciprocal family or grandparent membership for $150 that will provide unlimited access to both our Greenville and Spartanburg locations.
